What’s On
Learn to Skate
Every Saturday from 9am to 10am, Skateaway at Albany Creek Village offers an invigorating skating experience perfect for all ages and abilities. For just $17 entry plus $6.50 for skate hire, participants can enjoy a structured class led by accredited coaches and instructors. As a bonus, admission includes a FREE skate session from 10am to 12 noon.
What is Offered
Comprehensive Coaching: The 1-hour class follows the Skateaway Star Class Program, featuring regular testing and feedback to help skaters progress at their own pace. Whether a beginner or looking to refine skills, the program caters to everyone.
Three Levels of Training: The program is designed to guide skaters from basic to advanced skills in both quad and inline skating. Specialised groups include a beginners’ section and an adults-only class with adult instructors.
Regular Feedback: Instructors provide ongoing feedback, with formal evaluations on the final Saturday of each month. Skaters who demonstrate proficiency in their star elements receive a Star Patch and advance to the next level.
Advanced Opportunities: After completing the star program, skaters can join the Artistic Development (figure skating) Program or the Inline Hockey Club. Sessions for these advanced programs are available on Saturdays from 12 noon to 1pm.
Meet the Lead Instructor
Jodie Johnson-Garufo, the Star Class Coordinator and Lead Instructor, is a fully qualified National Level 3 (elite) and World Skate accredited coach. Along with her team, Jodie is dedicated to making the skating journey enjoyable and educational.
